This is a review of the computer monitoring software – AceSpy. As usual, for this review we'll start at the products website. The website is very easy to navigate and purchasing and downloading the software was simple. My only problem is that although there's a free trial for AceSpy on Cnet.com, I couldn’t find any trace of it on their website. The trial lasts for seven days.
Once Installed, you can set your chosen password and the software springs into life. I immediately found a big problem, when you close the software it goes into stealth mode but doesn't tell you how to bring the console back up! (Its Control, Shift, Alt and M by the way!) This could be a massive problem for someone who hasn't used a keylogger before, especially as the uninstall option is in the software itself.
The stealth side of the software is pretty good, it was reasonably hard to find AceSpy anywhere but the program does use a huge amount of system resources. AceSpy can monitor the following operations; keystrokes, websites visited, applications used, chat monitoring, file activities and printed documents. Some of this works well, some of it doesn't. The chat monitoring doesn't work on the majority of chat applications we tested it with and although the screenshot capture does work, the viewing of the screens is limited because of the size of AceSpy's window.
There are also reported problems with the user interface opening when pressing the secret key combination, although they may have fixed this as it hasn’t occurred with us. As for the customer support? Slow and almost pointless.
So all in all, AceSpy has a huge amount of problems that need serious work before the software is rated any higher. What does work, works pretty well and the user interface looks good and is easy to navigate (apart from the screenshot restrictions.) Until we see improvements, stick to something else!
