As usual, we'll start off at the products website. The site is easy to navigate and offers a free 15 day trial. Downloading and installing Net Spy Pro is easy and once installed everything runs in complete stealth mode. No trace of Net Spy Pro can be found in the task manager, start menu or the add/remove programs list. If you wish, employees can be reminded that they are being monitored when the computer starts up. The software has to be installed on each machine you want to monitor and the machine you wish to view the results from.
Net Spy Pro has all the normal monitoring software features. This includes being able to monitor all the websites visited (including user names and passwords), programs used, keystrokes pressed, chat/IM conversations and emails sent. All of this works very well.
A brilliant feature of Net Spy Pro is the ability to control the employees PC from your own computer. This includes being able to open and close applications and websites, freeze and restart the computer and hide the task bar. Net Spy Pros document tracking features are also very good, enabling you to track a list of recently opened documents by time and user name.
The filtering and block features in Net Spy Pro are reasonable. Employers can block applications by name and websites by address, name or keyword. This can be handy for blocking games or sites like facebook any myspace.
Unfortunately, the reporting features in Net Spy Pro are quite limited. Everything is easy to view and the interface is very user friendly but there are no search or filter options and everything is only viewable by date – this can be restricting for larger companies and offices.
All in all, Net Spy Pro is a decent product with a lot of great features. A few of the functions need a bit of work and some elements are a bit restrictive but the free trial will help you to decide whether the features will work for your work environment.
